GoRaleigh's brand-new 2025 Gillig Low Floor CNGs sitting idle in the yard awaiting their first passenger miles.
2025 was a big year for transit in the Triangle. Every agency, aside from Wolfline, received new units, and GoRaleigh certainly didn't disappoint. While they are technically 2024s, 4 Gillig Low Floor CNGs entered service in March, alongside 4 Low Floor Plus battery-electric units that all entered service in September, minus 2503, which was late to the party and didn't enter service until October, and hasn't been seen since. Late into 2025, GoRaleigh began receiving the first of their 13 Low Floor CNGs set to arrive throughout early 2026. These buses, which are 40 feet in length, will likely feature the same engine/transmission combo as the agency's previous orders, which, of course, is a Cummins-Westport L9N paired with an Allison B400R transmission. GoRaleigh's 2024 CNGs started the trend of plastic-backed American Seating Insight Prime Pluses, and the "2025" CNGs will likely be no different. They will most likely also have white Luminator Spectrum headsigns. For the foamers who want to know all of the nitty-gritty small details, the side GoRaleigh logos above the windows are slightly larger than previous buses, and the "Powered by Renewable Natural Gas" decal on the rooftop CNG tanks is a permenant decal now, as opposed to a "sticker" covering the "Powered By Compressed Natural Gas" decals, as seen on older units. The rooftop numbering spec has also been slightly altered, with GoRaleigh returning to black horizontal numbers on the roof aligned with the front wheelwell (similar to the 2018-2019 CNGs), as opposed to white vertical numbers on top of the CNG tanks, as seen on CNGs ordered between 2021 and 2024. Based on previous orders, these new units will probably enter service 2-3 months after all 13 buses have been delivered, which should, if everything goes to plan, be around April. Currently, what looks to be about 8 (2505-2512) have been delivered, which means 5 more are on the way. 2514 was recently spotted in Livermore, California, at the Gillig plant, which means at least 10 have been built.
